About Buddha and Buddhism

Lord Buddha was born with the name of Siddhartha Gautam in Lumbini, Nepal. Later he is famous all over the world as the light of Asia. Buddhism in Nepal starts from the birth of Siddhartha Gautama himself. This religion is one of the most primitive and largest religions in the world. And Nepal is the starting and ending point to know Buddhism.

“Buddha” means or “the enlightened one”.  He was born in 6th century B.C. He becomes enlightened after experimenting with different teachings for years and finding nothing. Finally, he was spending one night with deep meditation beneath a tree and that night becomes his fateful night because he finds all the answers which he had been seeking for years. He becomes enlightened, he becomes Buddha.  After that, he started preaching the world.

For those who are curious about Buddhism, this tour is for them to have an opportunity to know the details about Buddhism and it’s culture. It takes you to the major Buddhist pilgrimage sites in the valley and to Lumbini-the birthplace of Lord Buddha.

Day 01

Arrival in Kathmandu

Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), Kathmandu. You will be welcomed by the representative of Elephant Tours to the hub of capital and culture of Nepal. And transfer to the hotel. Day 02

Buddhist sites tour around Kathmandu

Boudhanath: It is one of the biggest pilgrimage site of Tibetan Buddhism. It is also known as one of the oldest monument in Kathmandu Valley and enlisted in the UNESCO world heritage site in 1979 A.D. This site is also known as first monument with a written history. Swoyambhu (Monkey's Temple): Swoyambhu stupa, situated on a beautiful hillock at a distance of about 4 km from the Thamel city of Kathmandu. This stupa is religiously important for Buddhist as well as popular among the Hindu devotees and people of other faiths. This peaceful and calm hill gives us an opportunity of picturesque view of the Kathmandu valley and charming view of splendid panorama of Himalayan range. Overnight in a hotel in Kathmandu (BB)

Day 03

Kathmandu to - Namo Buddha - Dhulikhel

Namobuddha is located on the lap of a hill at a forest. It is around 42 km from Kathmandu and 12km from Dhulikhel. Dhulikhel is also a famous tourist destination of Nepal. Close to the main stupa in Namobuddha, there i s a Monastery on the hilltop. Visitors can also enjoy the great view of mountains, hillocks and green farmland. According to Buddist story, Namobuddha is dedicated to a young prince, who has sacrificed himself to a hungry tigress and her cubs. The name of the prince is Mahasttya. In the memory of the prince, his brothers built a stupa on the hilltop and later it become famous as Namobuddha. Overnight in a hotel in Dhulikhel (BB)

Day 04

From Dhulikhel to Lumbini via Kathmandu

Private transfer to Lumbini from Dhulikhel via Kathmandu . Rest of the time for your personal activities. Overnight in a hotel in Lumbini (BB)

Day 05

Lumbini buddhist heritage site tour

The UNESCO World heritage site of Lumbini has been still developing under a master plan. The total area covered by this master plan is 1x3 sq miles. There are various monastery in monastic zone, constructed by different country and sect in Buddhism. During the tour, we will visit the Mayadevi temple protecting "Marker Stone", statue of nativity scene, ruins of old temple walls dated from3rd BC to 12 AD, Ashoka Pillar, World peace pagoda and museum etc. Inscriptions on the Ashoka pillar also explain his visit at the birth place of Buddha. Day 06

Kapilvastu visit

Around 60km drive to Kapilvastu, Tilaurakot to visit the places like Tilaurakot, Gotihawa, Kudan, Niglihawa and Sagarhawa. All the places has their own important in Buddhism. Kapilvastu, Tilaurakot is the capital of Shakyas, where Buddha spent his first 29 years of his life. Kudan is built by his father Suddhodan for the accommodation purpose of Buddha. It is where Buddha was received by his father after his enlightenment. In this way Niglihawa is the birthplace of Krakuchhanda Buddha (another Buddha), Niglihawa is the place where another Kanakmani Buddha was born. And the Sagarahawa is the archaeological findings as "place of massacre of Shakya clan". Overnight in a hotel in Lumbini (BB)

Day 07

Visit of Devdaha - Ramgram and back to Kathmandu

This is another important and sacred place in Buddhism. Devdaha and Ramgram is maternal home of Mayadevi (mother of Gautam Buddha) and also the ancient capital of Koliya kingdom. This is the place where Gautam Buddha spent is childhood. After visiting Devdaha and Ramgram, we will back to Kathmandu. Rest of the time is for personal activities. Overnight in Kathmandu. (BB)

Day 08

Final departure

After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, you can use your time as per your wish (as per your flight schedule). And proceed towards Tribhuvan International Airport for onward destination.
