Brief History of Kathmandu, Nepal

Kathmandu valley occupies 220 sq miles of its land. The main habitant of this valley is Newar and they come in power from the 13th century. The Lichchhabi kings from 4th – 9th centuries established the valley similarly Malla regime decorated the valley with their extraordinary architecture. Likewise, in the mid of 18th century, the great Prithvi Narayan Shah invaded the valley from the Gorkha kingdom.

Above all, the Malla king should unite against Prithvi Narayan Shah but the three Malla kings of the valley failed to unite against him. As a result, it became easy for Shah to conquer the Kathmandu valley. Shah dynasty began after Prithvi Narayan Shah conquered the valley. After that he and his successor who started to unite all the small country in the territory of Kathmandu valley in the name of Nepal. 200 years of the Shah dynasty become history after the historic success of people’s movement in 2006.

Itineraries

Day 01

Arrival and sightseeing tour of Pashupatinath and Boudhanath

The representative of Elephant Tours will receive you at the Tirbhuvan International Airport and transfer you to the Hotel. After freshen up in the hotel, you will be transferred to the sightseeing point i.e. Boudhanath and Pashupatinath. Overnight in the Hotel. Boudhanath: It is one of the biggest pilgrimage site of Tibetan Buddhism. It is also known as one of the oldest monument in Kathmandu Valley and enlisted in the UNESCO world heritage site in 1979 A.D. This site is also known as first monument with a written history. Pashupatinath: This temple is the most important shrine for the Hindus from all over the world. Although non Hindus are not allowed inside the premises of the temple, the cremation that takes place outside of the temple area is interesting for foreigners. It is also listed in UNESCO world heritage site in 1979. The main attractions of this area are: SADHUS / Hindu holy men, cremation ceremony etc.

Day 02

Full day sightseeing tour of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Patan

After breakfast in the hotel, you will be transferred to Bhaktapur. In the ancient time, there were three ancient kingdom in Kathmandu valley i.e. Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Patan. So, the Bhaktapur is one the three ancient small kingdom in the Kathmandu valley. It is 15 kilometers far from the city of Kathmandu. After sightseeing in Bhaktapur, we will have lunch there and proceed to Patan. Patan (the city of fine art) lies 9 kilometers far from Bhaktapur in the southern part of Kathmandu city. Bhaktapur: Major tourist attractionsin Bhaktapur are: The Nyatpol temple (pagoda style tallest 5 storied temple in Nepal), The 55 windows Palace, The Royal Bath, Pottery Square and Dattatreya Temple are the major attraction in Bhaktapur. Patan: The Patan city comprises more than 136 Buddhist monasteries and 50 Hindu temples. Most famous south Indian style Krishna temple, the sunken bath, the Taleju telmple, golden temple are the main attractions of Patan Durbar square. And this city is also famous for carvings done in metal, wood and stone. Swoyambhu (Monkey's Temple): Swoyambhu stupa, situated on a beautiful hillock at a distance of about 4 km from the Thamel city of Kathmandu. This stupa is religiously important for Buddhist as well as popular among the Hindu devotees and people of other faiths. This peaceful and calm hill gives us an opportunity of picturesque view of the Kathmandu valley and charming view of splendid panorama of Himalayan range.

Day 03

Final Departure

After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, you can use your time as per your wish (as per your flight schedule). And proceed towards Tribhuvan International Airport for onward destination.
